Well, a great weekend was had by all at the Great Aycliffe show in Durham....yes, I did say Durham! Just the 9 hour drive which was fun-ish! By the end of it Pete and I were driven mad by the panting dogs determined to travel in the cab, bad burgers and monotonous tarmac.
On arrival we were delighted to find the organisers had provided the horses with their own tent so we didn't have to put up our awning, but unfortunately this was about ten meters away from a funfair with wizzy helicopter type rides in abundance. As we have already proven several times this season, our horses do not like fun fairs, particularly Magpie! However, not much to be done about it at 11pm so we thought we would settle the horses in and get some shut eye in and just hope the fair had gone by the morning.
Not so, in fact it was doing its fair thing in earnest, complete with hydrolic noises and loud music which placing our lorry infront of it was not going to hide.
In a matter of seconds, we loaded up the 3 horses (Grasshopper was along for the weekend too) and drove to the other end of the show ground, which, being about the size of 2 football pitches meant the horses could no longer hear the dreaded fair. The rest of the weekend then proceeded without hiccup and we all thoroughly enjoyed Jason Smythe's Polaris adrenalin Tour display on quads, particularly Grasshopper who had a front row seat and was looking for inspiration to put into his 2015 shows.....I might opt to ride Storm next year as I don't like heights!!
Although we had a few showers, it was a great 2 day show and although we all nearly killed each other on the journey home, we had a fun weekend and an unexpected day off the following day as our Show at Osterly park was cancelled due to the weather!
